What are upselling and cross-selling?

These are techniques to increase sales through offering products the customer may want to upgrade to or buy with their current selection. Basically, the online equivalent to a salesperson suggesting better or complementary products.

Differences

Upselling is offering an upgrade to a product which fills the same role, e.g. offering a larger engine size in the same model of car.

Cross-selling is offering a product that may compliment the current choice, e.g. offering a caravan or a trailer with the car.
